This is about how the female body is expected to be used exhibitionistically. How capitalism uses this fact and creates unattainable ideals which in turn contribute to the perception of the female body as inadequate.
Iris Cato – an alter ego – my sexuality in concentrated form. She is a symbol of the panic, dejection and anxiety I feel as a result of the constant demands made on my body.
It’s about how men’s scoptophilia, voyeurism and commercial pornography consumption have been normalised and how this norm has eclipsed the sexualities of women and non-binary people.
I have Cato light up a spark in the hope that this will make the darkness go away.
Through her, I attempt to obliterate men’s exclusive rights to objectification.
Det handlar om hur den kvinnliga kroppen förväntas användas i exhibitionistiskt syfte. Hur kapitalismen använder sig av detta, skapar ouppnåeliga ideal som i sin tur bidrar till att den kvinnliga kroppen upplevs otillräcklig.
Iris Cato – ett alter ego, en koncentrerad gestaltning av min sexualitet. Hon är en symbol för den panik, uppgivenhet och ångest jag känner över att ständigt ha krav på min kropp.
Det handlar om hur mannens skoptofili, voyeurism och kommersiella porrkonsumtion har blivit normaliserad, hur denna norm har lagt ett mörker över kvinnor och ickebinäras sexualitet.
Jag låter Cato tända en gnista i förhoppning på att detta mörker skall försvinna.
Genom henne gör jag ett försök att tillintetgöra mannens äganderätt på objektifieringen.
