Each year, around 80,000 elks are shot in Sweden. A total of 55 % of an elk’s total weight is estimated to be edible meat and the remaining 45 % is thrown away.
I believe that these so-called waste products could be used in a more meaningful way.
It is a matter of respect.
If you kill an animal, you should do your utmost to use as much of the animal as possible.
During the autumn, I have collected these remains.
What have people done with these parts historically? Materials and methods which today are forgotten or lack a market. What can I do today, that they could not then?
I have examined fur, bones and hides from elks and materialised these studies in a number of objects for the home, to create more awareness of the potential of these materials.
Varje år skjuts det ungefär 80 000 älgar i Sverige. Av en älg beräknas 55% av vikten som ätbart kött och 45% slängs.
Jag tror att det skulle kunna gå att ta till vara på dessa så kallade rester på ett mer meningsfullt sätt.
Det är en fråga om respekt.
Om en tar livet av ett djur så menar jag att ett mål borde vara att göra det yttersta för att ta till vara på så mycket av det som möjligt.
Under hösten har jag samlat in dessa rester.
Vad har gjorts historiskt med dessa delar? Material och metoder som idag är bortglömda eller saknar marknad. Vad kan jag göra idag som en inte kunde då?
Jag har arbetat undersökande med hår, ben och hud från älg och materialiserat dessa studier till ett antal objekt för hemmet för en ökad medvetenhet om potentialen i detta material.
