An exploration of the role of handicraft in the industry
During the winter I visited the brick works at Bältarbo Tegelbruk in Dalarna to examine the relationship between handicraft and industry, the hand and the machine. How can I break down tensions between the two in order to ascribe qualities normally seen in handicraft to industrially produced artefacts? The direct communication between the crafter and the material, the history that the hand leaves imprinted in the object and the presence of the hand, are discussed in relationship to industrial productivity.
Ett utforskande i hantverkets plats i industrin
Under vintern och våren har jag besökt Bältarbo tegelbruk i Dalarna för att undersöka förhållandet mellan hantverk och industri, handen och maskinen. Hur kan jag bryta upp motsättningarna mellan dessa i syfte att tillskriva industriellt framställda artefakter kvaliteter vi normalt ser i hantverk? Den direkta kommunikationen mellan hantverkaren och materialet, den historia handen efterlämnar i föremålet och handens närvaro, diskuteras i förhållande till produktivitet i industrin.
