In August 2015, I packed my belongings into boxes, emptied my studio at the old shipyard in Helsinki, piled my furniture into my parents’ garage and moved to Stockholm.
It is not just new things that I look for when I explore a new city; it is also a search for the familiar. It feels like the way I perceive my surroundings changes or evolves. In a familiar city, there are a lot of things that go unnoticed, I take them for granted.
My degree project is an installation of hand embroidered images.
The theme of my work has been the feeling of belonging to a new environment and the process of a place becoming a home. I explore the perception of a place and pick fragments to translate into embroidery.
I augusti 2015 packade jag ihop mina saker i lådor, tömde min studio i Helsingfors gamla hamn, staplade mina möbler i föräldrarnas garage och flyttade till Stockholm.
När jag utforskar en stad så letar jag inte bara efter det nya utan även det bekanta. Det känns som att sättet jag upplever min omgivning på förändras eller utvecklas. I en bekant stad finns det mycket som går obemärkt förbi – saker jag tar för givna.
Mitt examensarbete är en installation av handbroderade motiv.
Jag har arbetat med känslan av att tillhöra en ny miljö och den process som gör en plats till ett hem. Jag utforskar hur en plats uppfattas och väljer ut fragment som jag förvandlar till broderier.
